Hey Manatee, Can You Hear Me Now?

Ever wondered why manatees don’t get out of the way of motorboats? Edmund R. Gerstein wondered why as well. He’s the director of marine mammal research and behavior in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science at Florida Atlantic University.

Manatees can’t hear the low sounds of boat engines, which is why the animals are frequently injured,┬áthis researcher says. A high-pitched alarm could solve the problem.
